Rotax RM1 Challenge Final

The final race of the Rotax RM1 Challenge was held as part of the seventh race of the Coupe de Montreal. Saskatoon native Scott Campbell handily won the final and in doing so will be racing this January in the Rotax Max Challenge World Finals being held in the Canary Islands. Campbell represented Canada last year at the same event held in Egypt.

“At the start (Kyle) Herder and JF (Valour) passed me into (corner) 6,” explained Campbell. “I pretty much let then go, my tires were still cold and if they wanted to battle it out, well go right ahead. I knew my tires were going to come in and they (Herder and Valour) had just run in a full race before ours (in Rotax Max) and I hadn’t done any racing except the (RM1) pre-final. They were going to get tired out. Time to keep your cool and not panic. Look what happened, they took each other out, I get a big huge lead and win!”

Campbell had these thought on his visit to Quebec: “It is the first time I’ve ever been to Quebec in my life. The track is a really good layout. It gets technical and it’s got some fast sections. I have no complaints about the track, that’s for sure.”

As for the level of competition Campbell was pleased. “I’ve had experience and a lot of these guys at the Nationals and stuff. It’s the same (level) down east and in BC. This is what I need, people to race against and test me.”
